Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! Proverbs 6:6
The ant isn’t wise and I am not born wise. The question is “Where is wisdom?” Will I find it by observing the behaviour of the ant? The ant carries its burden from one place to another without knowing why. This isn’t wisdom in my opinion. Wisdom is knowing why I do a thing, knowing where I come from and where I’m going to. Is that not wisdom?
Going without knowing from where and without knowing where to is stupidity in my opinion. Carrying a burden to God alone knows where from a place that God alone knows where is even greater stupidity.
So what is this advice that the Bible is giving us? I think it’s speaking about an attitude that human beings should have in their relation to God. It means “do God’s bidding, carry the burden He’s put on you, blindly, without knowing why or where to or where from.” The objective of the Bible is to tell us that it’s wise to do God’s bidding without question.
This isn’t the attitude of secularism, which advises human beings to inquire and to do research into each and every action and each and every event on the face of the earth and in the universe as a whole.
